Sudan Civil War
Committee Size: 25 delegates

Since the war broke out in Sudan two years ago, almost 15,000 people have been killed. Not to mention the 8+ million people that were displaced. War broke out 2 years ago but Sudan has been struggling since the Darfur Conflict in 2003. This conflict was caused in the action of rebel groups trying to put an end to the autocratic rule of the former President of Sudan, President Omar al-Bashir. This event took around 200,000 civilians’ lives because of attacks, disease, and starvation. This number is almost 13 times the amount of lives taken since war broke out, but if this war continues how it is, we’ll reach that number in no time. The two main parties that the war circles around are leaders of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and a powerful paramilitary group known as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Displacement in Sudan

As of 2024, more than 8 million Sudan civilians have been displaced due to the tough conditions in Sudan. Countries like Chad, South Sudan, Egypt, and Ethiopia have been holding these 8+ million refugees currently. Of those 8+ million people, over 6 million of them are internally displaced in Sudan. This makes Sudan’s conflict one of the largest IDPs in the world, giving us an even larger reason to solve this problem quickly and effectively. Sudan had already been the 2nd highest refugee holding country in Africa, and now due to the displacement, many people are displaced for a second time.

Food Supply and Safety

The Sudanese refugees are in dire need of medical care, food, water, shelter, healthcare, and so much more. Many citizens are struggling with acute food insecurity and almost 6 million citizens are on the verge of famine. Many diseases like Measles and Cholera are infiltrating the citizens of Sudan. The medical centers in Sudan are struggling under the pressure of having so many patients but not enough staff and supplies to treat the patients. The natural conditions like floods and droughts are making it difficult to grow a supplementary amount of crops and livestock to support people who need it.
