The World Health Organization Committee

[WHO]

Committee Size: 25 delegates

The World Health Organization is a global association that aspires to give people from all around the world access to healthcare. WHO staffers respond to international health emergencies to ensure safety across the globe. They distribute medicines and health products, devise antimicrobial strategies, and help countries recover from health threats. In this topic, delegates will be focusing on the influence of the Ebola virus.

The Impact of the Ebola Virus on the Healthcare System

The Ebola virus was first identified in 1976 after many cases started appearing in Central Africa. Since then, there will be outbreaks spontaneously, the last one being from 2022 to 2023. With the frequency of the Ebola virus, the public’s fear only grew. This lead up to them blaming the healthcare system. Also with the increase of healthcare workers focusing on the Ebola virus and going to the front lines, many clinics had to close because of low staffing, weakening healthcare in general. Was this the correct choice to make? Delegates will evaluate the crisis and make the best decision for the most benefit.

The Effect of the
Ebola Virus on Domestic Matters

The Ebola Virus has shown the true colors of the public. The government poorly managed the Ebola Virus situation, leading to people being frustrated and doubtful. The result was that people were more reluctant to follow government policies to keep them safe, which contributed to the spread of the virus. Also, with society being disrupted, foreign affairs took a setback too. Countries weren’t able to get the supplies they needed because of traveling and exportation restrictions. This made it so that countries that relied on trade became deficient in resources. Delegates will analyze the situation and construct a resolution.
